Kolkata on my mind today. These 'portraits' are from our photo-shoot in the bustee a few years ago, part of a project for Empower the Children. Each volunteer with HTA LLC was assigned a student or two (six to 12 years-old, roughly) from Prayrona School. We handed over our digital cameras and off the children went (with the volunteers close behind!), photographing everyday life in the slum. They took pictures of cows, goats, dogs, gardens on rooftops, biscuit factories, rickshaws, motorbikes, pet rats, garbage sifters, playgrounds, trains and people cleaning dishes, cooking lunch and washing laundry - all in the streets.
